Ready to dive deeper into sewing and actually have the time to work on something bigger?
Design to Finish is a 16-hour hands-on sewing and clothing design program created for kids, teens, and adults who want more time to sew, build their skills, and bring their own ideas to life.
Maybe you want to create your own clothing, work on a cosplay outfit, explore an idea you’ve been sketching, or simply want longer sewing sessions so you can dive in and progress more quickly. We’ve also had parents ask for a class they can take alongside their child — this is the perfect opportunity to learn and create together.
No prior sewing experience is required. Beginners are welcome!
Students will work on their own individual clothing projects based on their interests and skill level while receiving guidance throughout the process.
Before we start cutting fabric, we start with the foundation.
During our first class, students will:
• Get familiar with the sewing machine, its parts, and basic operation
• Learn sewing machine and studio safety
• Practice threading the machine, winding a bobbin, changing needles, and basic troubleshooting
• Learn about different sewing machine needles and when to use them
• Learn about different types of fabrics and how to choose the right fabric for a project
• Develop and plan their clothing or cosplay design
• Take measurements and discuss patterns, fit, and garment construction
• Determine the fabric and project-specific materials needed to complete their design
Students will leave Week 1 knowing what fabric and additional materials they need to purchase and bring for the following class.
Now it’s time to bring the design to the cutting table!
Students will prepare their patterns and fabric, learn proper pattern placement and cutting techniques, and begin constructing their clothing projects.
We’ll start using our studio sewing machines and tools as students begin turning their designs into something they can actually wear.
This is where our longer class sessions really come in handy.
Students will have dedicated time to work on their clothing projects with instructor guidance. We’ll continue garment construction, learn new sewing techniques as needed, troubleshoot problems, work on fit and adjustments, and learn finishing techniques.
Depending on the individual design, students may also incorporate other available studio tools and equipment to create custom details or embellishments.
We provide basic sewing notions, shared studio supplies, sewing machines, sergers, and sewing tools for students to use during class.
Students provide their own main fabric and project-specific materials. Because everyone will be creating something different, material needs will vary.
Don’t worry if you’re not sure what to buy! Week 1 is designed to help you plan your project and determine exactly what materials you’ll need before purchasing your fabric.
Design to Finish is a great fit for:
